The promise of our Light to guide us

Here is another process of me journaling in our newest kit, follow the light. I love random drawn pictures that reflects my style, I am also a big fan of mixed media. I do not mind messyness and I do not follow the rules. With this page I want to show you that if you think you cannot draw, just maybe you can. If you think you are not good enough to do something artsy… just maybe you can. All you need is imagination and someone showing you how to use products.

Let’s start…We are journaling in Isaiah 42:6 “And you will be a light to guide the nations.”

For this page I used a smaller Bible with thin pages. I added printer paper behind the page I was working on to protect the rest of my Bible, so that I only colour the page I am working on.

I firstly prepared my page with 2 layers of Clear Gesso. I painted the first layer using a paint card then dried it competely with a heat tool, added another layer and then also dried it with a heat tool. It is important for the page to be completely dry. The reason I prepared the page is because I want to play with my Koi watercolour brush pens. When adding water to these brush pens scribbles you can manipulate the pigment to create beautiful art.

I then fussy cut the images on the tear out sheet in the devotional booklet. The pictures I used were the frame with the picture of the road and the trees and also used the words “promise” and “light” on the page. I then used my Koi watercolour brush pens and tried to recreate the scene on the fussycut frame with the road with trees picture. I made a brown scribble for the road with the brushpen and with a wet paint brush dragged the colour to create the desired effect. I created the tree on the side of the page with brown and black. And for the leaves of the tree I used, yellow, orange and brown.

I created the sky with yellow and orange but after adding the water and dragging the pigment around it was too bright so I cleaned the paint brush and dried it with a paper towel and with a dry paint brush I picked up some of the colour to create a nice lighter effect. I added some green and brown for the grass, and later added some blue to the sky as it looked a bit pale being only orange and yellow.

Once I was happy with the artwork I used a Pigma Micron pen to create some lines and scribbles on the road and tree for extra definition. I drew some bricks on the road and leaves on the tree.

To create a heading for the page I used some of the words on the cut out sheet and positioned them on the page. Then using a Tombow Fudenosuke calligraphy pen I added the page heading.

Using a yellow chalk ink I added som definition around the edges of the fussy cut words.

To add more interest to my page I decided to create a bookmark. In the kit you will receive a beautiful glitter paper as well as a laminated page with glitter. I cut a smaller piece of both pieces and made a booklet with them by adding an eyelet through both pages. I then cut out the middle of the picture frame with a craft knife and with the black Koi Brush pen coloured the sides of the cut outs to hide the white of the paper. With liquid glue I then adhered the inside of the frame to the glitter cardstock and the frame I glued to the laminated piece with glitter. To create more interest I added a black and white string through the eyelet and did some journaling on the back of the bookmark.

Finally I pondered on my verse and marked the verse with a Gelly Roll pen and added hearts to the important parts and also did my journaling with a Micron sketch pen.

Hope you enjoyed the process and that I made you see that you do not need to be the worlds greatest artist to do Bible journaling. To help you even more there is a You Tube video on our You Tube Channel, have fun.
